Error-free rolls vital for transparent elections: EC

QUETTA: Provincial Election Commissioner Balochistan Fayyaz Hussain Murad has said that it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to clean the electoral rolls from errors. Constituencies for local government elections will be ready from December 6 to December 20.
These views were expressed by him while addressing a press conference on Wednesday. In order to achieve the objective of reviewing the existing voter lists, the work of reviewing the electoral rolls has been started in Balochistan as well as in the country through door-to-door verification process.
The process of verification has started from November 7. Under Article 219 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the preparation and revision of electoral rolls is the main duty of the Election Commission for holding transparent and fair elections across the country.
He said that error-free electoral rolls have a key role to play in conducting transparent elections. According to this, 30 days have been fixed in which the appointed staff will go door to door from 7th November to 6th December 2021 to complete the process of verification of voters in Balochistan like the rest of the country. Preliminary electoral rolls will be printed by January 25, 2022. He said that from January 26, the preliminary electoral rolls will be displayed on the display center, while requests and objections for accuracy of votes on these rolls can be submitted till February 24. Data entry work of corrected votes will be done from 12th March to 23rd March and final electoral rolls will be published on 13th April 2022.
He urged people to cooperate with the verification staff of the Commission and get their vote registered so that no eligible citizen is deprived of their right to vote.
Replying to a question, he said that as per the direction of Election Commission of Pakistan, teams have been formed to monitor the work of review of electoral rolls in Balochistan province and the work of review is being monitored by Member Election Commission Shah Mohammad from Balochistan.
Jatoi visited Sorab District and Makran Division and monitored the review work and met the District Election Commissioners and the review staff and reviewed the work so far.
