QUETTA: The second meeting of the Apex Committee of South Balochistan Package was held in the auditorium of Planning Commission under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo.
Commander 12 Corps Lt. Gen. Sarfraz Ali, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri, Development Hafiz Abdul Basit and officials of Planning Commission attended the meeting.
During the briefing, the chief minister was informed that the package includes 122 projects of different sectors which should be completed by 2025. The meeting was informed that the implementation of the package will be speeded up.
It was agreed that the people of South Balochistan are fully aware of the package and have a lot of expectations attached to it. Committees will be set up at the federal level headed by the Secretary Planning and at the provincial level under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary that will focus on the projects to be completed in two years.
It was agreed up that the obstacles and shortcomings in the commencement and completion of projects be removed immediately. It was decided in the meeting that local population consultation should be included in the development plans of Gwadar Old Town.
The Chief Minister said that the South Balochistan package includes important projects. The Chief Minister said that the authorities need to win trust and heart of the people by giving them their right in the form of basic facilities.
The Chief Minister directed that the ongoing projects included in PSDP should not be included in the package. This creates misunderstanding among the people. He also directed to complete the power and water projects included in the package on priority basis.
The Chief Minister said that the attitude of Prime Minister Imran Khan towards the development of Balochistan is very encouraging. North Balochistan package will be announced soon.
it may be mentioned here that the federal cabinet has announced a Rs600 billion package for development projects in south Balochistan.
The announcement was made by Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar along with Information Minister Senator Shibli Faraz, Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal and Minister for Communication Murad Saeed.
The projects will be implemented in nine districts of southern Balochistan. The federal government will provide Rs540 million and the rest will be spent by the provincial government.
After implementation of the package, special initiatives will also be announced for north Balochistan, interior Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr Umar said, adding agriculture is a key source of income for southern locals, therefore, the government will build 16 dams to irrigate 150,000 acres.
